195: Hybrid Schooling
Our school, which has been all remote, is moving a hybrid model, where some are in-person and some are virtual. It’s been quite a lot of back and forth with the schools. Here’s what went down:
The school asked us to choose if we wanted full-time remote learning or full-time in-person learning.
We wouldn’t know which teacher we would get in either scenario. It was likely, they said, that we would get a new teacher.
If remote, every 6 weeks you can opt to come back to in-person
In person learning is 2.5 hours
There are people who can’t wait for in-person and there are people who really want to stay remote - and they are passionate about it. It’s a no-win situation for the schools.
Our family is staying all-remote as our kids are really doing well and we’re in a good groove. If this pandemic never ends, we may reconsider.
Looking at the school reports it seems like we’re not particularly at rides. Schools in Southern and Midwestern states are most at risk of coronavirus transmission but most schools haven't become coronavirus hotspots. But it’s still possible, as Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas and Tennessee have all already reported more than a thousand cases in K-12 schools.

Corona
Four vaccines for the novel coronavirus are now in late-stage testing in people in the United States. Here's where they stand.
Coronavirus cases in the United States surpassed seven million less than a month after reaching six million.
Two former leaders of a Massachusetts veterans’ home were indicted on charges of criminal neglect in connection to the coronavirus deaths of at least 76 residents at their facility.
Officials in Oklahoma reported 1,276 new cases, a single-day record for the state. More cases have been announced in Oklahoma over the past week than in any other seven-day stretch of the pandemic.
That’s it everyone. Have a great start to the week. It’s my birthday today so I’ll be taking some time to relax and enjoy the day.
