197: Trump's Taxes
Unless you’ve been under a rock, you’ve heard about Trump’s taxes. I’m no lawyer or accountant, but I had some thoughts:
The people who care the most about these tax issues are Democrats who already aren’t voting for him. Hilary brought this same issue up during 2016 debate and nobody seemed to care.
For me, having a President with over $300 million in personal debt is a problem. For ordinary Americans, even small debt can prevent them from obtaining a security clearance because it makes them vulnerable to blackmail. So, having a President with that debt seems like a big red flag.
We really need to simplify the tax code. The complexity of it is really a tax on the poor because they can’t spend money to navigate the complexity. One idea I like is have 0% federal tax for those under $50k income, 20% for those $50-$500k, and then 30% for those above $500k. It’d be the same tax revenue as what we have now but SO much simpler. But again, I’m no accountant.
One interesting thread I read about it was that if you look closely at it, it’s not tax fraud, but it’s money laundering. It’s not his money that he’s laundering but someone else’s. We don’t know whose it is.
The Debate
It was so bizarre. Some reactions:
